Councillors have three main components to their work:

  1. Decision making – Through meetings and attending committees with other elected members, councillors decide which activities to support, where money should be spent, what services should be delivered and what policies should be implemented.
  2. Monitoring – Councillors make sure that their decisions lead to efficient and effective services by keeping an eye on how well things are working.
  3. Getting involved locally – As local representatives, councillors have responsibilities towards their constituents and local organisations.

These responsibilities and duties often depend on what the councillor wants to achieve and how much time is available, and may include:

  • Going to meetings of local organisations such as tenants’ associations.
  • Going to meetings of bodies affecting the wider community.
  • Taking up issues on behalf of members of the public.
  • Running a surgery for residents to bring up issues.
  • Meeting with individual residents in their own homes.

Attending a council meeting is the best way to find out what happens there. If you are interested in attending please give the Clerk a call to find out when the next meeting is taking place.

How much time does it take up?

Quite often councillors say that their duties occupy them for about three hours a week. Obviously there are some councillors who spend more time than this – and some less, but in the main, being a community or town councillor is an enjoyable way of contributing to your community, and helping to make it a better place to live and work.

Lyn Evans

Chair

I moved to Tan y Bryn in 1984 with my late wife and eldest son, our second son was born here. I worked first as a lecturer in Farm Management and Marketing and then for 31 years in the Meat Industry. I retired 14 years ago, while waiting for my wife to retire, I turned my hand to building houses. Every day I feel privileged to live in LLanbedr.
Dave Ritchie

Councillor

My wife Rachel, daughter Hannah, and I moved to Llanbedr DC in 2017. We fell in love with this beautiful place after having visited the area many times over the years and eventually decided to make the Big move. I previously worked for a local council for twenty-eight years within the Parks department, managing landscape and building renovation projects. I also have general building experience having had my own house renovating company. Both my wife and I are very keen to be involved and help as much as we can within the local community of this outstanding place.
Nick Smith

Councillor

I have lived at Willowbank Cottage, between Llanbedr and Hirwaen, since 2007, and I became a community councillor in 2017. I have worked in Town and Country Planning since 2001. I hope to support village facilities and businesses to prosper and help our community remain an attractive and vital place to live.
Tim Baker

Vice Chair

I am a freelance theatre director and writer, working in both Welsh and English. I was Associate Director at Theatr Clwyd for seventeen years. I moved to Llanbedr from Mold in 2009 and joined the Community Council five years later. I am currently Vice Chair of the Council. I am passionate about bringing people together as a proud and creative community and the improvement of village amenities.
Caroline Duckworth

Councillor

I am a relative newcomer to Llanbedr DC having only moved here in May 2019 although I’ve lived in Ruthin and the Vale for over 16 years. I am looking forward to working with the village community to improve the facilities we have, make the village a safer place to live in and to helping the sense of community grow.
Jackie Bird

Councillor

My career until recently, was in a managerial position in a specialist High School, but I am now a freelance Maths Consultant working nationwide. I moved to Lon Cae Glas with my husband in 2017 & became a community councillor early in 2018, having lived in the Mold area for 33 years. I believe passionately in encouraging all age groups to feel they have ownership of their community by encouraging communication, participation & support where needed.
Ian Lloyd Williams

Councillor

My wife Nicola and I moved to the village a few years ago, having fallen in love with the area when we lived in Chester. We are both keen to get involved in village activites and to do what we can to help our community thrive.

I head up the communications team for a free debt advice provider – these days working mostly from home! I am a keen sailor and cyclist, but you’ll most often see Nicola and me plodding around the local lanes and footpaths with our Labradoodle, Miffy.

Jackie Holder

Councillor

I moved to Llanbedr in 2018, having wanted to move to North Wales to be nearer family for many years. I live on Tan y Bryn with my eldest son and his fiancé and feel privileged to live in this lovely village.  I am now retired, having served in the Police for 30 years, then 7 years as a 111 Call Handler and Unison rep with the Ambulance Service. I have sung in various bands over the years, enjoy watching Rugby Union and exploring our fantastic surrounding countryside with our two dogs. I strongly believe that village life and a strong community is precious and want to help in continuing the work towards all residents, whatever their age, feeling that they belong in our village and are valued.
